Are we eternally going to be a country where subsequent governments rake up and criticise the past governments for their inadequacies and misdeeds?
My grouse is not essentially with the current dispensation, but my timing is such, that the present government just happens to be in the firing line.
Most of the valuable time that could’ve otherwise been spent on course-correction, is blatantly being wasted on the blame-game! In any given circumstances, the opposition will continue to seize any and all opportunities to swoop down on, and criticise any slip-up of the ruling government. That is the dirty job of whoever is in the opposition. This is irrespective of which party is in power. This does not require that the current government dedicates all its resources and time in trying to justify its actions in relation with what similar misdoings the opposition had committed when they (the opposition) were in power in the past.
Yes, it is only a natural reflex for the one who is being presently blamed, to categorically point out to how the one who is doing the blaming had also goofed up in the past. But spending an unreal amount of time in only slamming each other, is in my opinion, fruitless!
The current government should rise above these petty skirmishes and move ahead; not dwell in the past. It is time we move beyond this immature behavior and step out of the garbage bin once and for all!
What I see happening today is a discourse where the current thief is saying that since the previous thieves had robbed, that now he too is “entitled” to steal, without being asked any questions.
You were an idiot in the past; now it is my time to show that I am a bigger idiot! And I am entitled! This seems to be the mantra!
Behavior of such kind only raises doubts in my mind about the true intentions of the current leaders. Is the “New India” vision really a progressive vision? Or is it only a mere façade? Is it only a fantastic exterior to keep the masses in perpetual hope, while the powers-that-are keep nit-picking about each others historical fiascos?
At this rate I do not see any such “New India” as is promised; only a neatly packed “Old India”, while inside this package, the contents are deteriorating to a worse state of decay than they have ever been.
Will we ever realise that in order to move ahead swiftly we have to shed our old and redundant baggage? Or are we going to continue with the useless autopsy of what went wrong and due to whom?
The country is currently like a school which prominently displays a list of covered subjects such as Economics, Community Living, Science & Technology, etc., but is only focusing on one redundant subject, History, while the other subjects are pushed into the back seat!
Can we move ahead? Or should we resign to the fact that no matter which government is in power, they will forever be wasting the mandate in fault-finding?
