“Everyday has its own trouble” is not a saying but the Word of God and it indeed has a lot to tell us. Moreover, with the happenings that are taking place these days in the political arena, things those are coined to disturb the fabric of the State and the forceful implementations of the bills by the local and central government despite objections from the opposition without debate.
Recently the spyware Pegasus issue where 17 global media organisations have investigated the role of an Israeli company, spyware Pegasus, used in hacking the phones of almost 50,000 people in the world. Of these, almost 300 phone numbers were from India which included ministers, opposition leaders, several journalists, IAS officers, a sitting SC judge, scientists and activists. It is said that the makers of this software say that this software is sold to Governments only, and that there are 30 Governments worldwide who use this software. The Indian Government known for its denials has repeatedly denied though the world is watching. This monsoon session the Upper House too raised questions over the Pegasus report and the Government is not able to give a fitting valid reply. Can we believe that the government had no idea of the phones being hacked after having intelligence personnel?
Shocking! Goa woke up to an earthquake that rocked not certain parts of Goa but the whole of tiny State with the newspaper making headlines: Bhumiputra Adhikari Bill on July 31, 2021. Was this the final nail in the coffin? Or are there still more to come? How much more can the Bharatiya jackpot party stoop low to garner votes and remain in power? Many a time I say this when we find ourselves in a traffic jam. A non-Goan vehicle getting into trouble with a Goan. Instead of sorting things out amicably we make a mountain of it all forgetting that we too travel in the other States and the vice-versa can happen to us. I say this in connection to the Goans who have settled in other States like Karnataka, Maharashtra, or elsewhere. Have the governments passed any bills or given any delicacies for the Goans staying there – be it jobs, or land and passed bills overnight in favour of the Goans? Every individual at personal, social and community level has its own dilemma, difficulties, complications and teething problems. Yes, even a toddler goes through it altogether making life topsy turvy for the family members.
It is sickening to see the scenario and all that is taking place. A quote from the Bible where “Jesus says to the 12, do you want to go away? And Simon Peter answered: Lord to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life” (Jn 6: 67-68). Yes, to whom can we turn to besides the Lord? Whom can we trust? Who can be trusted?
In these testing times the people find it difficult to make ends meet. The soaring prices of the essentials, the petrol/diesel prices sky rocketing each day. The land and sea, taken away, the flora and fauna destroyed and false empty promises and manifestos every five years before the elections.
Will the real Goenkar wake up from the deep slumber? Will the real Goenkar stop falling to traps of the vote bank parties who lure with food, drinks and even umbrellas, bikes and fridges, etc? Will I be foreigner in my own land?
