“My head stands bowed down in shame looking at the way our Goan politics is shaping up once again. The greed and lust for power seems to be the order of the day of the peoples’ representatives. Earlier we called them jumping jacks but of late they could even be called playing a ‘kolv******** khell’ to the galleries. I bet no constituency and its constituents will support their MLA’s hobnobbing with other parties to fulfil their personal agenda known the past history.
Instead of giving Goans decent governance, the elected representatives are showing their ulterior motives which do not augur well in today’s public life. In the name of democracy, all norms and principles are flaunted for personal gains. No law or rules will ever safeguard our democracy because there are too many loop-holes that are usurped time and again under the circumstances. This is the real shortcoming of our system. The basic human ethics of governance are thrown to the winds to protect each one’s selfish interest.
A simple question to those who want to change the party after getting elected. Will such representatives have guts to first resign and then contest again before joining the new party of his/her choice? Isn’t it absurd on our democratic system? Will India’s democracy ever try and rectify these loopholes and protect the interest of their voters? I have a doubt because whatever rules and regulations are in place are enacted well to keep themselves in the hunt for selfish motives.
Presently the ways cross-overs are taking at will, the electorate is literally taken for a ride. The people who voted them to power are cheated and feeling bruised. And this proves that the elected representatives have no respect whatsoever to their constituents.
This raises a valid question when one’s blood boils in dismay and revenge against those who jump the party for monetary gains. I fail to understand why only ministerial berths can achieve development in one’s constituency? Or is it that they only want a red-beacon fitted vehicle to roam around? Can’t he work wonders to his people by just being an MLA?
There is no doubt Goa had witnessed umpteen times all these hara-kiri of politics in the past, but the latest crossing over smacks of hypocrisy and chicanery. It gives one an impression that only ministerial berths can work for the elected representatives. People are found just cursing all these monsters’ who are showing their true colours not realising that these types of rogues have kicked the bucket of late. People’s curses are the worst type of punishment that they can ask for. And it will happen time and again for those who loot and plunder Goa and Goans.
We have no other alternative to teach them a lesson or two but only once in five years during the election time. But given the trend the present politicians don’t rely nor are dependents on local Goan electorate but rather migrants who have been well equipped with voters’ card already. This is the undoing of the locals support.
While people curse the BJP of ills unleashed on Goans at present, the Congress still found to be day-dreaming with their leaders still unsure of what is going to be in store for them. Why we should not doubt that some of the Congress MLAs too wanted to join the BJP bandwagon for a few crores of rupees had the MGP men not revolted?
Dumping of irrelevant leaders on the public is the greatest shameful act of the party. Instead of having people’s choice, the party which has shown no seriousness at all is putting an ailing and aging face for the Lok Sabha elections. Here it shows how the Congress has failed to groom new leaders over the years who had served themselves instead of protecting interests of Goa and Goans.
And this should have been the greatest concern to the party instead of letting loose an agile face that has had his share of loot. Those who have made fortunes at the cost of the development of Goa should have no place in today’s dispensation.
Only time will tell as to who will take the reigns of MP to the Centre. Meantime, it’s for us to vote for the right party and the right candidate to decide our fate for yet another five years. But it’s migrants’ vote that will seal the fate of all Goans and for that we should thank our dishonourable ministers and MLAs who have sheltered and pampered them in the State.
