I was inspired with these words… due to the rising temperatures… humidity… I felt so sick with the wet through. I wanted to get refreshed! These words caught my attention! My thoughts moved while I launched into the deep.
This summer the humidity was unbearable and one could not escape the heat. Even the luxury of AC couldn’t beat it! The feeling of getting refreshed was the need of the hour which just remained a mere thought due to… being at workplace or in addition to not being at home. Many took to malls to escape the scourging heat. Someone was heard saying: it has been so embarrassing… the soaking of clothes with the sweat…. the humid sticky feeling and odour. I just felt to sit under the shower and get myself refreshed!!! Getting refreshed no doubt is obviously a great feeling and dire need after a busy day. Yes, spending few moments at the river side basking at the sundown with the cool gentle breeze caressing and kissing your skin!
Even the gadgets that we use feel the need of refreshment and the need to get them refreshed. Anything for that matter has the requirement of getting invigorated, recharged, revitalised and rejuvenated. Just as all look out for fresh flowers; fresh vegetables; fresh fish and it can go on… Even someone with great charm and twinkling eyes!!! That’s how the world looks at you today; that’s how the market is today and THAT’s how you also ought to be!
The commemoration of the feast – Birthday of St John the Baptist is the right occasion to share a few thoughts on the above inspired words. We all had the share of feeling humid, sticky… and the need to take a shower… to get or feel rejuvenated or revived.
Together with the physical being there is also the spiritual or the soul that becomes sticky with all the inordinate things. Where one longs to have peace; peace of mind and heart; where one yearns to get re-energised spiritually yet the spirit is found willing but the flesh weak. Nevertheless the feast or birthday of St John the Baptist invites to go against the current and to rise higher; together with the crowd or the people who came to St John the Baptist asking – “what should I do?” (Gospel of St. Luke chapter 3: 10 – 14), “In reply he said to them, whoever has two coats must share with anyone who has none; and whoever has food must do likewise. Even the tax collectors came ….and they asked him, “Teacher, what should we do?” He said to them, “Collect no more than the amount prescribed for you.” The soldiers also asked him, “And we, what should we do?” He said to them, “Do not extort the money from anyone by threats or false accusations, and be satisfied with your wages.”
This feast has a lot in store for us for a deeper reflection and understanding. To rejuvenate our soul; to get rid of the sticky humid feeling! There’s a message for people of all walks of life. It all depends on how much I am willing to ask myself… what should I do? To refresh, to breathe new life and feel the leap of joy, leap of happiness!
