The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has threatened to resume its nationwide protest if the Centre fails to fulfill its promises to drop all FIRs against student demonstrators and end punitive actions. The warning comes after a recent Supreme Court interim order allowed governments to proceed with existing investigations.
In a statement, CJP chief spokesperson Saurav Das argued that Direction No. 4 of the court order directly contradicts the government’s July 25 pledge. Das noted that the CJP had called off its 36-day agitation at Jantar Mantar in good faith, trusting promises that cases would be dropped and no youth targeted. He questioned why government lawyers did not oppose the interim order, calling the court’s direction “uninformed” and warning against using it as an excuse to renege on assurances.

Das emphasized that the executive still retains full legal authority to withdraw cases. He urged the Centre and BJP-led state governments to present the July 25 agreement before the Supreme Court for complete transparency.
Adding to the pressure, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke—currently recovering from typhoid—posted on X alleging that police harassment of students persists. Dipke warned of a “massive peaceful protest” if the government continues targeting youth.
The CJP had suspended its long-running demonstration following key concessions from the Centre, including the resignation of former Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, FIR withdrawals, and commitments to exam reforms. However, with the government’s deadline expiring on Tuesday, the CJP demanded the immediate release of detained protesters, the cancellation of all criminal cases, and a written guarantee against fresh charges, declaring it will mobilize nationwide if its demands are ignored.
