Delhi woke up to heavy downpours on Saturday, leading to widespread waterlogging and traffic disruptions across several parts of the city. Areas including Shastri Bhawan, RK Puram, Moti Bagh, and Kidwai Nagar experienced intense rainfall, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a red alert for the day.
The alert covers multiple zones—North, West, South, South East, and Central Delhi—warning of very heavy rainfall accompanied by lightning and thunderstorms. Waterlogging was reported at key stretches such as Panchkuian Marg, Minto Road, Mathura Road, and near Bharat Mandapam’s Gate No. 7.

In the wider Delhi-NCR region, Ghaziabad has also been placed under a red alert, while Gautam Buddh Nagar remains on a yellow alert for thunderstorms and lightning. The IMD forecast predicts partly cloudy skies with light rain and thundershowers later in the day, with maximum temperatures between 32–34°C and minimum temperatures of 24–26°C.
Posting on X (formerly Twitter), the IMD warned that moderate to heavy rain, along with thunderstorms and lightning, is highly likely at most places in Delhi-NCR. Light to moderate rainfall is also expected in neighbouring towns such as Gohana, Sonipat, Rohtak, Sohna, Palwal, Nuh, and Aurangabad.
In Haryana, an orange alert has been issued for Palwal, Gurugram, and Faridabad, warning of moderate to heavy rainfall. Meanwhile, Himachal Pradesh is bracing for continued showers, with the IMD placing three districts under an orange alert and issuing a yellow alert for the rest between August 11 and 12.
