Aujla recalled how the lyric “motherfucking gabru” from MF Gabru landed him in legal trouble. Rather than offering a serious explanation, he narrated the incident in a light-hearted manner, turning an old controversy into a hilarious anecdote.

When Samay asked how he dealt with the legal trouble, Aujla delivered the punchline of the evening.
“I went to Dubai.”

The Legal Row Behind the Humour
The controversy dates back to when the Punjab State Women’s Commission took suo motu cognisance of the song’s lyrics. The Commission raised concerns that the language was objectionable and disrespectful towards women.
Commission Chairperson Raj Lali Gill said such lyrics could negatively influence young listeners and urged artists to be more responsible about the content they create.
The matter was later referred to the Bureau of Investigation and the Director General of Police, with notices seeking clarifications from both Karan Aujla and Yo Yo Honey Singh.
Both Singers Later Apologised
The controversy was eventually resolved after both Karan Aujla and Yo Yo Honey Singh apologised for the language used in the song and responded to the concerns raised by the authorities.
Years later, Aujla chose to look back at the episode with humour instead of regret. His witty “I went to Dubai” response turned what was once a legal controversy into one of the most memorable moments from India’s Got Latent Season 2.
