Members of the Dhangar community renewed their demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status during a massive Dhangar Melawa organised by the Gomantak Dhangar Samajonnati Mandal, Quepem Taluka, at the Xeldem Panchayat Hall on Sunday.
The gathering witnessed the participation of a large number of community members, who collectively reiterated their long-standing demand for constitutional recognition as a Scheduled Tribe.

Speakers at the event stressed the need for the government to expedite the process of granting ST status to the Dhangar community, stating that the demand has remained pending for several years.
Community leaders urged members to remain united and continue their democratic movement until the objective is achieved. They also called on the government to take concrete steps to address the aspirations of the community and ensure that justice is delivered.
The Melawa concluded with a renewed resolve among participants to continue their campaign for Scheduled Tribe status through peaceful and united efforts.
