Panaji: Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over a mimicry performance at Gandhi’s recent event in Indore, describing the episode as “shameful and deeply disturbing.”
The controversy erupted after comedian Pulkit Mani mimicked Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the “Chhatron Ki Goonj” programme in Indore on September 19. The performance included references to an interaction involving an elderly woman, drawing criticism from BJP leaders.

Sawant said political opposition and robust debate are essential in a democracy, but maintained that criticism should focus on policies and decisions rather than personal references involving parents or elders.
He accused Rahul Gandhi and the Congress of crossing what he described as the limits of political decency, and said political disagreements should not come at the expense of basic respect.
The Congress has defended the performance as mimicry and entertainment, while BJP leaders have criticised it as inappropriate and disrespectful.
