Haryana CA Murders Pregnant Wife, Stages Robbery Scene

The accused in police custody in Jhajjar on Tuesday

A chilling murder unfolded in Haryana when chartered accountant Anshul Dhawan allegedly killed his pregnant wife Mehak, 27, hours after a Valentine’s Day outing, then tried to pass it off as robbery.

Planned Betrayal on a Fateful Drive

On February 15 evening, the Gurugram couple—married since September 2025—drove from Hisar toward Gurugram after family time. Dhawan, suspecting Mehak’s fidelity amid frequent quarrels, strangled her inside the car near Pahsaur village in Jhajjar’s Badli area. He donned gloves, slit her throat with scissors, dumped her body by a dry canal, tossed her jewelry away, and damaged their car’s windscreen to fake a heist.

Inconsistencies Lead to Swift Arrest

Around 11 p.m., Dhawan called police claiming unknown robbers attacked them. But vague details on attackers’ appearance and vehicle raised red flags. After grilling, he confessed on February 17. Police recovered gloves; post-mortem confirmed strangulation followed by throat-slitting. Mehak, an HDFC Bank employee and two-months pregnant, left behind grieving kin who suspected Dhawan early.

Family Alleges Month-Long Plot

Mehak’s brother Akshay and father Krishan Kathuria reported Dhawan’s paranoia and threats. Her brother-in-law claimed Dhawan admitted pre-planning. Badli police filed charges under relevant BNS sections, probing phone records and possible accomplices like Dhawan’s sister.
