A midnight blaze ravaged part of Shubham Surlkar’s home in Guravwada Kudne on February 17 around 10:30 p.m., destroying his car and over half the rice stored in the shed.
Swift Response Saves Family Home
The fire’s cause remains unknown, but flames quickly consumed the vehicle parked nearby and substantial rice reserves, with Surlkar estimating Rs 10 lakh losses. Bicholim Fire Brigade rushed to the scene, extending long hoses since their vehicle couldn’t access the house directly. They doused the inferno, preventing it from spreading to the main structure where Surlkar, his mother, and wife were present.
Sarpanch Damodar Pethkar arrived promptly, offering immediate relief and reporting the incident to local MLA and Chief Minister Pramod Sawant. He pledged efforts to secure maximum aid from the CM Relief Fund.
