Mumbai and its suburban regions continued to reel under relentless heavy rainfall for the third consecutive day, prompting the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to activate its entire emergency response system to tackle the worsening situation.
According to official figures, the city division received nearly 300 mm of rainfall over the past 48 hours, while the eastern suburbs recorded around 380 mm and the western suburbs registered 345 mm, making it one of the most intense spells of monsoon rain this season.

With strong winds reaching speeds of 70 to 80 kmph accompanying the downpour, the BMC has deployed its full administrative and disaster response machinery on a war footing, placing citizen safety as its top priority.
The BMC’s Disaster Management Department is monitoring the situation round the clock, coordinating emergency services and ensuring swift action in affected areas. A Special General Body Meeting has also been scheduled for July 9, where civic authorities are expected to deliberate extensively on the impact of the heavy rains and the measures undertaken to mitigate damage.
Emergency response teams have been positioned at vulnerable locations across the city to promptly address incidents such as uprooted trees, electrical short circuits, and partial or complete collapses of dilapidated structures.
To minimise flooding and restore normalcy, the civic body has deployed high-capacity dewatering pumps, suction machines, and additional personnel to expedite the drainage of waterlogged areas. The intensified efforts aim to reduce disruptions and safeguard residents as heavy rainfall continues to lash the financial capital.
