NCP Begins Post-Ajit Pawar Churn as Leaders Meet Sunetra Pawar

Hours after the funeral of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Thursday, a meeting in Baramati has sparked speculation that the NCP has begun chalking out its future political strategy. Senior party leaders Praful Patel, Chhagan Bhujbal and Dhananjay Munde met Pawar’s wife, Sunetra Pawar, fuelling talk of a possible leadership transition. While sources claimed the leaders urged her to take up the deputy chief minister’s post, Bhujbal told NDTV the meeting was purely a courtesy call with no political discussion following Pawar’s death in a plane crash on Wednesday. Maharashtra FDA Minister Narhari Zirwal said public sentiment favours Sunetra Pawar’s induction into the cabinet. Currently a Rajya Sabha MP, Sunetra Pawar would need to secure election to the Assembly or Council if she is to assume executive office.
