A 76-year-old man lost his life, and at least nine others were injured when a swarm of bees attacked them in Odisha’s Kendrapara district on Friday, police said.
The incident took place in Jaguleipada village, under the jurisdiction of Rajkanika Police Station, in the afternoon, according to senior police officials. The victim, identified as Bailochan Biswal, was rushed to Kendrapara district headquarters hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The remaining nine injured individuals were treated and discharged after receiving medical attention. Authorities later discovered a large two-foot-long beehive on a tree within the premises of the village school, believed to be the source of the attack.
Local police have advised residents to remain cautious around the area as the hive has been marked for safe removal. Swarm attacks are rare but can prove fatal, particularly for the elderly or those allergic to bee stings.
This incident has raised concerns about public safety around schools and residential areas with large hives, prompting officials to consider preventive measures and awareness drives in the district.
