A woman allegedly choked her one-year-nine-month-old nephew to death at a park in northwest Delhi’s Mukherji Nagar area on Friday afternoon, police said. The accused, aged around 30 and reportedly suffering from depression, had taken the child to the park to play when the incident occurred.
According to police, a local resident noticed the situation and immediately rescued the child before rushing him to a nearby private hospital. However, doctors declared the toddler dead on arrival. A video from the spot showed the woman sitting with the child’s body on her lap.
Rahul, a gardener who helped rescue the child, told reporters that he heard shouting and hurried to the park. “After lunch we heard noise and rushed there. We saw a lady holding the child. When I went closer, the child was already dead,” he said.
Police were informed by the child’s maternal uncle about the incident around 1.30 pm. The boy, a resident of Old Seelampur, had come with his mother to visit her maternal home.
The accused was found unconscious at the scene and shifted to Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital. Legal action has been initiated, and further investigation is underway.
