PORVORIM, JAN 22 (HC) — Porvorim police have arrested Ankush Vasant Chari of Salvador -do-Mundo on charges of stealing drilling machines at Porvorim.
A contractor, Laximan Rathod, had filed a police complaint on Saturday stating that burglars had broken into his room at a construction site at Sapna Gardens in Porvorim and had decamped with two drilling machines worth Rs 20,000.
The burglary had taken place sometime between the night of January 15 and morning of January 16.
Rathod initially checked with his staff if they had taken these drilling machines. On Saturday morning, he received a phone call from a friend at Ribandar stating that somebody had approached him to sell the stolen drilling machines.
Accordingly, he filed a complaint with the Porvorim Police. Acting on the complaint, a police team comprising PSI D Gadekar and ASI Vilas Phadte rushed to Ribandar and caught the accused red-handed at 2.30 pm while selling the drilling machines.
The complainant identified his machines and the accused Ankush Chari reportedly confessed to the crime.
Police has booked the accused under Sections 454, 457 and 380 of IPC and will produce him before the Judicial Magistrate First class on Sunday. ASI Vilas Phadte is investigating the case.
