10 years RI, fine for raping minor

The Children's Court has sentenced a 21-year-old rape accused to ten years rigorous imprisonment (RI) and imposed a total fine of Rs 2,10,000 on him.

The Children’s Court has sentenced a 21-year-old rape accused to ten years rigorous imprisonment (RI) and imposed a total fine of Rs 2,10,000 on him.
The accused Raju Madhar, a native of Karnataka who worked as a labourer in Gudi Paroda, was found guilty of sexually abusing a minor girl.
According to the case of the prosecution, the accused sexually exploited the victim over a period of time with a promise that he would marry her.
Children Court President Nutan D Sardessai held Raju Madhar who worked as a labourer guilty under section 376(2) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sentenced him to 10 years RI and to pay fine of Rs 10,000. In the event, he fails to pay the fine, he is ordered to undergo imprisonment for a term of one month.
He is further sentenced to ten years RI under section 8(2) of Goa Children’s Act and awarded fine of Rs 2 lakh. Both the sentences run concurrently.
The victim who has no parents and relatives was staying at the complainant’s house when she was sexually abused by the accused.
The court has ordered that fine collected, be paid to the victim as compensation.
The prosecution examined seven witnesses in addition to the victim.
