MARGAO: Around 12 passengers were injured after a Raia bound bus turned turtle at Fatorda, meters away from City Cafe, triggering outrage amongst the local residents over the spate of accidents along the PWD office road and the blind eye turned by the authorities in cracking a whip against reckless driving.
While most of the passengers who were rushed to Hospcio were later discharged after first aid, two passengers, including a one-year-old infant, were kept under observation.
The accident triggered outrage amongst the residents of Fatorda, who directed their ire at the RTO and traffic officials for turning a blind eye to the rash and negligent driving on the road. They demanded to know how the RTO had granted fitness certificate for the bus when the vehicle tyres are worn out.
An agitated resident Placido Cassanha said the authorities have done nothing to reduce the number of accidents on the road, near the PWD office.
Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai said that the RTO should conduct a fitness check on the vehicle and demanded that the driving license of the driver should be revoked.
On the widening of the Arlem-Fatorda road, Sardesais said that he would take up the work of road widening after taking into account the heritage aspects and residential dwellings dotting along the road.
Assistant Transport director Sandeep Desai said the RTO would suspend the licence of the erring bus driver.
On the worn out tyres and the fitness of the vehicle, Desai said the issued will be looked into by his office.
