129 nominations filed across five municipalities

PANJIM: On Monday, as many as 129 nominations were filed across five municipalities for the upcoming April 23 civic polls.

The five municipalities- Mapusa, Margao, Mormugao, Sanguem and Quepem- have till date received total 187 nominations. The last date to file nominations is April 8.  

As per the information provided by the State Election Commission (SEC) total 129 nominations were filed on Monday.  

Mormugao has received 55 nominations so far, followed by 49 in Margao and 46 in Quepem. The Mapusa Municipal Council got 26 nominations while 11 have been filed in Sanguem. 

The scrutiny of applications will take place on April 9, while the withdrawal of candidature, if any, will be allowed on April 10.

The filing of nominations had begun from March 31 onwards.  

Meanwhile, with three days to go for nominations to end, no aspirant has shown interest in filing nomination for bye-elections to the Ward II of Karapur-Sarvan panchayat in Bicholim taluka and Ward IV of Velim panchayat in Salcete taluka. 

The bye-elections are also scheduled on April 23. The counting for all polls will be on April 26.
