Quitula woman robbed in Mapusa
PORVORIM: Gold ornaments worth about Rs 1.50 lakh were stolen from a woman of Quitula-Aldona, when she fell unconscious after accepting a drink spiked with an intoxicative substance at Bodgini-Mapusa.
In a police complaint, Surekha S Naik told Mapusa Police that a woman in her early twenties offered her soft drink mixed with some intoxicative substance sometime between 5 pm and 7 pm on October 10.
Naik claimed that she fell unconscious after consuming the drink and when she regained consciousness, she realized that the woman had stolen her gold ornaments worth Rs 1.50 lakh from her purse. An offence under Sections 328, 379 IPC has been registered and PSI C R Gawas is investigating the case.
Lad ‘kidnapped’ at Ponda
CALANGUTE: A 10-year-old boy has been reported kidnapped from Ponda on Ocober 11.
According to Anjuna Police, the boy’s mother informed police that an unknown person kidnapped her son from her lawful guardianship at Sapana Park, Ponda, at about 9.30 am on October 11. An offence under Section 363 IPC & Sec 8 (2) of Goa Children Act has been registered and PSI Mahesh Kerkar is investigating the case.
Goan student bags INSPIRE Award
PANJIM: It was a proud moment for Goa when Raveena Rahul Deshpande, a student of People’s High School, Panjim, won the first prize at the INSPIRE Awards-2013, which are instituted by the Ministry of Science and Technology, New Delhi. Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and Director of Education Anil Powar have congratulated Raveena on her accomplishment.
Raveena represented Goa at the ‘Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research’ (INSPIRE) Awards with her project ‘Taming Hard Water ~ The Eco Friendly Way. Raveena was awarded cash prize and certificate. she studies in the ninth standard and is the daughter of chartered accountant Shilpa Deshpande and engineer Rahul Deshpande.
Shiroda VP denies allegations
PONDA: Denying allegations of villagers from Dhansade-Torla, Shiroda, who have accused the Shiroda Panchayat and other government agencies of failing to act against a controversial stone quarry, Shiroda Sarpanch Sandesh Prabhudessai on Tuesday claimed that the stone quarry operation has been stopped.
“After panchayat received a complaint from villagers regarding the illegal stone quarry at Dhansade-Torla, both the parties were called to discuss the issue,” said Prabhudessai.
“The person who was alleged to have been operating the stone quarry was asked to stop and approach authorities concerned for permissions,” informed Prabhudessai.
Exam preparatory sets released

Every school can send one entry. The students have to capture on their camera or mobile the environment in and around the school (within two kilometres radius). It can be houses, religious or historical institutions, flora and fauna or anything else. They have to make a power point presentation of around twenty to thirty slides with captions. Gov, CM greet Goans on Dussehra
PANJIM: The Governor Bharat Vir Wanchoo has extended greetings and best wishes to the people of Goa on the auspicious occasion of Dussehra.
The Governor said the celebration of Dussehra marks the symbolic victory of good over evil. “The celebrations of our myriad festivals and spiritual occasions across the length and breadth of our country, help us understand the real worth and value of these time-tested ideals, and promote social cohesion and cultural integration.
May the celebrations of Dussehra bring enduring peace, joy and prosperity to everyone,” the Governor said.
The Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar too greeted Goans on Dussehra, saying the festival reinforces the eternal message of triumph of good over evil.
Chief Minister said, “May this festival stimulate in all of us the determination to emulate the righteousness of the Rama, the loyalty of his brothers ~ Bharata and Lakshmana, the virtues of Sita and the valour and humility of Hanuman.”

Chinchinnim youth ordained priest
PANJIM: Archbishop Filipe Neri Ferrão ordained a Carmelite deacon, Mark Furtado, to priesthood at a ceremony held at Our Lady of Hope Church in Chinchinnim.
The ordination ceremony was celebrated with Fr Archibald Gonsalves OCD, the provincial of Karnataka-Goa Province of the Discalced Carmelites, presenting the candidate to Archbishop Ferrão to ordain him as priest.
While delivering his homily, Archbishop highlighted the role of a priest as a celebrant of the sacraments, proclaimer of the Word of God and service to the humanity at large.
Parish Priest Fr Armando Souza and Fr Archibald spoke on the occasion. The newly ordained priest was felicitated after the Eucharistic celebration.
Fr Mark Furtado hails from Grande-Durga ward of Chinchinnim and his brother, Fr Milchester, is a priest belonging to the Goa Province of Capuchin.

Dead newborn had heart problem: Cops
PANJIM: The Panjim police Saturday said that the new born who was found dead beneath the new Patto Bridge two days ago, had a heart problem.
The police officials, quoting the post mortem report, have also said that the week-old baby girl was already dead before she was reportedly thrown in the River Mandovi. “She was born with cardiac problem and had died before being thrown in the water,” said an official. Police have already sought details of recent child births from the GMC and other maternity homes. A criminal offence against unidentified persons under section 318 of the Indian Penal Code, has been registered.
