PANJIM: The State government has identified and notified 13 sites across Goa as dumping sites for construction debris only.
State Advocate General Dattaprasad Lawande submitted this in the High Court during the hearing of the contempt petition filed by advocate Aires Rodrigues over inaction of the authorities on continued dumping of debris and garbage along the Panjim-Old Goa bypass road.
The High Court of Bombay at Goa on Wednesday directed that all municipalities and panchayats incorporate in the construction licences, from April 1 onwards, that disposal of construction debris would be the responsibility of the licensee. The court further directed punitive action against panchayats and municipalities who fail to take action against violators.
Rodrigues in his contempt petition had pointed out that in 2007, a PIL had been filed over rampant dumping of building debris along the Panjim-Old Goa bypass and that taking note of this, various orders came to be passed by the High Court and the disposed based on a Minutes of Order signed and submitted to the Court.
