150-year-old building collapses at Curchorem

CURCHOREM, AUG 26 A portion of the 150-year-old Costa Building situated in Curchorem market near the railway station collapsed on Thursday morning. No one was injured in the incident and the property loss has been estimated at Rs 1 lakh.

On getting the information, Curchorem Talathi Roopak Dessai and some officers of Quepem Mamlatdar’s office rushed to the site ad took stock of the situation.
According to sources, a wall of the building had collapsed on August 1, after which the concerned authorities inspected the building and considering the impending danger of collapse, the authorities had issued notices to the shopkeepers to vacate the building. The Costa Building houses a tavern and a shop.
According to sources, the building is about 150 years old and is in a dilapidated condition.
