17 suspected dengue cases reported at Ponda

Ponda: The Ponda Public Health Centre (PHC) has recorded 17 suspected cases of dengue from January till date with 7 cases being reported in August alone.

The Public Health Centre is stressing on creating awareness regarding the disease and it has come to light that despite alerting multiple times, locals are not taking any precautionary measures.

A total of seven patients detected in August were treated and all have responded to the treatment positively.

The cases were detected in Ponda municipal area, Curti village panchayat and Kavalem panchayat.

“Apart from inspecting the area, the Ponda Primary Health Centre also had awareness

programmes. However, we found that water was stored for far too long in some surroundings which could be the reason behind the increase in dengue cases. Insecticides have been sprayed in these premises and awareness programs will be held again wherever required,” said Health Officer Dr Smita Parsekar.

Sanitary health inspector Manoj Naik said, “Health workers moved from door-to-door to raise an awareness about dengue. We request people to take necessary precautions and get themselves checked at the nearby health centers if they notice any symptoms.”

Meanwhile, three suspected cases were also recorded during the last month in Shiroda Public Health Centre area.
