 Jute bags exhibition underway

PANJIM: Vaxi Self Help Group supported by Ozone group as a part of their corporate social responsibility has organised an exhibition cum sale of jute bags. The exhibition is underway at the All India Women’s Conference hall located on the ground floor of Institute Menezes Braganza, Panjim. It will continue till March 21.
Legal awareness programme held 
PANJIM: The Merces Free Legal Aid Cell of V M Salgaocar College of Law conducted a legal awareness programme at Merces panchayat hall, recently. On the occasion, Dr Nagesh Colvalcar, a professor at V M Salgaocar College, explained the rights of mundkars, while Adv Auro De Oliveira explained the partition and mutation process. The vote of thanks was proposed by Miss Kravisha Pilarnekar, deputy in charge Merces Legal Aid Cell.
Rosferns bags four awards
PANJIM: Konkani Songit Somajik Kala Kendra, Taleigao, Caranzalem  awarded the late Dr Jack De Sequiera awards to Goa’s leading Konkani tiatrist Antonio Rosario Fernandes known as Rosferns for creating history for being the first director of Konkani stage to write Konkani tiatrs  in A to Z alphabets. Ulhas Tari and Antonette De Mello were awarded the best actor and best actress for their stunning performance as father and mother in Rosferns Tiater, “Que sera, Que sera, Zuachem Zatolem” for the year 3013. Rosario De Benaulim also from Rosferns Dramatic Troupe was awarded the best singer award.  Comedian Sally was awarded the Best Comedian award for making people laugh from start to end in Rosferns tiater “Que sera, Que sera, Zuachem Zatolem” for the year 2013. Comedian Anita Fernandes was awarded the best comedian award for the year 2012 in Roseferns “Voir Marlolo Fator.
Verna college organises symposium 
PANJIM: The Department of Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering of Padre Conceicao College of Engineering in collaboration with VLSI Society of India (VSI), Goa Chapter, organised the eighth annual symposium on VLSI and Embedded Systems at the College premises, Verna. A pre-symposium workshop on “Introduction to Altera Quartus-II Simulation Tools” was held on the March 7. It was conducted by trainers from Enixys Technology Limited, the training partner of Altera Corporation. The course content included introduction of Altera VLSI simulation tools, along with the complete design flow cycle. The course was attended by fifty students from different colleges in Goa. Dr Chandrashekar Natarajan (group director, Research and Development, Defense Research and Development Organization — DRDO) was the chief guest, while Prasad Reddy, (University Programme Manager, South Asia and Pacific Region, Altera Corporation) delivered keynote address.
Principal’s Day observed at Curchorem 
CURCHOREM: The Principal Day’s was celebrated at Guardian Angel High School, Curchorem, on the occasion of birthday of its Headmaster Fr Walter Miranda on Tuesday. Speaking on the occasion, chief guest, Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral congratulated and wished Fr Miranda a long and prosperous life and appreciated his yeomen services in the field of education and particular to uplift the downtrodden. On the occasion, Cabral released a school magazine. Later, various cultural programmes were presented by the students and staff of the institution. A Mando, especially composed in honour of Fr Miranda, was presented by the staff in which Cabral also participated along with the staff. Earlier, the programme began with Eucharistic celebration with Fr Kyriel D’Souza, Provincial Superior of Goa Province of Pilar Fathers, as the main celebrant along with other priests. Later in the evening, primary and higher secondary section of Guardian Angel also celebrated the birthday of Fr Miranda and presented various cultural programme on the occasion.
Consumers asked to pay water bills
PANJIM: Water consumers of Tiswadi taluka have been asked to clear the arrears of water and sewage charges within the due date mentioned in the current bill. The water supply connections with arrears after the due date will be disconnected without any further notice, says a press note.
Ponda youth held for motorcycle theft
PONDA: Ponda Police on Tuesday arrested a 19-year-old youth from Shantinagar-Ponda on charges of stealing a motorcycle, which was parked near a Masjid at Savitri hall, Curti-Ponda. According to Ponda Police, the motorcycle owner complained that on March 16 the accused went to a garage to replace the lock of the stolen motorcycle. However, the garage owner, who was the uncle of the motorcycle owner, nabbed the accused and informed the police.
Ponda Police after conducting inquiry in the matter arrested the accused and is investigating the case.
Motorcycle stolen at Merces
OLD GOA: A motorcycle was reported stolen from an open parking place at Davarnem-Merces. According to Old Goa Police, Prashant Naik of Carmibhat-Merces complained that some persons stole motorcycle (GA-07-D-6458), worth Rs 40,000 from open parking place. Head Constable S Dhure is investigating the case.
Scooter stolen at Calangute
CALANGUTE: A scooter was reported stolen which was parked in front of fish market at Calangute. According to Calangute Police, Jaiprakash Sangodkar of Parra complained that some culprits stole his scooter (GA-03-E-8257), worth Rs 18,000. Head Constable Arun Mandrekar is investigating the case.
Collem native commits suicide
COLLEM: A 28-year-old resident of MPT Colony allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at his ancestral house at Collem on Monday. According to Collem Police, the body of Francisco Gomes was found hanging at his ancestral house. PSI S Lokre is investigating the case.
Man falls to death in creek
PORVORIM: A 55-year-old man from Salvador-do-Mundo died after he fell in the creek at Salvador-do-Mundo on Monday. According to Mapusa Police, Devdatta Karekar was rushed to Primary Health Centre Aldona, where he was declared dead. The body has been preserved in GMC Hospital in Bambolim. ASI V Naik is investigating the case.
‘Bar headmistress from school’
PANJIM: The Panjim police have in a letter to the Education Department recommended that Headmistress of Royal High School, Taleigao who is accused of harassing students and staff, should not be allowed to enter the school premises till the exams are over.  The headmistress, whose anticipatory bail is pending before a local court, is booked under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code and Goa Children’s Act, 2003 for physically and mentally harassing students as well as staff.  “The students are scared of her and since the case is under investigation, we have recommended to the education department to bar her from entering the school campus until the completion of exams,” said an officer.  The parents-teachers association has alleged that she has been continuously harassing and ill-treating the children and has even forced a child to wash the school toilet for being late for classes.
