MARGAO: Six of the 30 village panchayats in Salcete will have gram sabha every month for the next three months. While three gram sabhas are scheduled for June 3, one is scheduled for June 10 and two panchayats are yet to notify their gram sabhas.
It may be recalled that Director of Panchayats Ajit Panchwadkar had instructed Block Development Officers to issue notices to the six panchayats that did not convene regular gram sabhas in April.
However, before the notices could be issued, three villages, namely Aquem Baixo, Sarzora and Paroda notified the gram sabhas on June 3.
Betalbatim panchayat has notified its gram sabha on June 10, while Guirdolim and Carmona is yet to notify their gram sabhas.
Director of Panchayats had made it clear that the April gram sabha will have to be held in June itself, as in July it is time for another regular gram sabha.
“The villages will have to hold a gram sabha in June and later in July again,” he said.
Interestingly, all panchayats are supposed to hold a special gram sabha on Independence day, on August 15. So in six villages there will be a gram sabha every month for the next three months.
