Sanguem Judicial Magistrate First Class Sudhir S Shirgaonkar convicted two persons from Bagwaddo-Sanvordem for assaulting one Ramdas Naik with iron rod and for causing serious injuries to the victim.
In the instant case, victim Ramdas Naik had gone to the residence of one Suresh Vaghumerkar to inquire about shortage of drinking water supply to their residence, as the tenants kept by the Vaghumerkar in his house were keeping the taps open throughout the day.
While the victim was having deliberations with the Vaghumerkar family, victim’s father appeared on the scene and urged his son Ramdas Naik to stop arguing with Vaghumerkar family and return home.
At his father’s request, Ramdas started proceeding back to his house at which time accused Basawanna Gouda and Manjunath Gouda hit Ramdas on his head and hand with iron rods causing him serious injuries.
Ramdas was hospitalised and treated for the injuries caused by the accused at Primary Health Centre, Cacora. A police complaint was subsequently registered at Curchorem police by the victim, which was investigated by ASI Peter Fernandes and Head Constable Vijay Dessai.
The prosecution to prove the guilt of the accused examined nine witnesses in the matter including the investigating officer.
The prosecution was led by APP Govind Gaonkar attached to JMFC Sanguem.
The Judge after going through the evidence led by the prosecution convicted the accused persons with fine of Rs 10,000 each or in default to undergo four months simple imprisonment under Section 324 of IPC.
Incidentally at the time of sentence, accused Basawanna Gouda revealed that he is a government employee.
