20 nominations in Canacona

Twenty nomination papers were filed on the fifth day in the 10-member Canacona Municipal Council on Friday.
According to sources in the Canacona deputy collector’s office,Wards 1, 4, 7, and 8 received one nomination each , while Wards 2 and 5 received 4 nominations each. Wards 3 and 10 received three nominations each and Ward 9 received two nominations.
Candidates who filed their nominations on Friday were Monoja Naik Gaonkar (Ward 1 Nagarcem – Women reserved), Dilip A Kenkre, Sanjay Komarpant, Sandeep Komarpant and Ramkrishna Naik (Ward 2 Chaudi – General), Premanand Jiblo Gaonkar, Jiblo Babu Gaonkar and Sandesh Gaonkar (Ward 3 Mastimol – ST), Mahadev Putu Dessai (Ward 4 Ponsulem – General), Sneha Dessai, Santosh Kalgo Gaonkar, Suchna Santosh Gaunkar and Dayanand Shanta Dhuri (Ward 5 Kindlem – General), Champa Pagui (Ward 7 Patnem – Women OBC), Ajit Krishna Bhagat (Ward 8 Bhagatwada/Sawantwada – General), Sanju Nanu Pagui and Mario Do Sucorro Ilorio Rebello (Ward 9 Palolem I – OBC) and Vinda Komarpant, Vachan Naik and Rajeshwari Divakar Pagui (Ward 10(Palolem II – Women).
With this, the total nominations in Canacona has reached 27, with three candidates filing two sets each, while Tarir-Rajbag (Ward 6) is yet to open its nomination account.
A large number of supporters of various candidates were seen at Deputy Collectorate, Canacona, till afternoon.
According to sources, many candidates avoided filing nominations on Thursday, which was a new moon day and considered by many as inauspicious.
