20-point prog being misused, complains Nagoa panchayat

MARGAO: South Goa Collector Sachin Shinde and the Nagoa panchayat held a meeting at the Matanhy Saldanha Administrative Complex on Saturday in view of the village’s 20-point housing programme being misused by migrants.

The issue had featured prominently at the gram sabha on August 16.
The panch members highlighted the problems faced by them and the locals, after which Shinde assured to study the matter and take action soon. The panch members stated that the meeting was positive.
Around 20 migrants reside in four rooms constructed on a plot – four to six in each. Under the 20-point programme, 160 plots were allotted in the village for the homeless. Some of the alottees have constructed houses as per the 20-point programme guidelines.
However, rest of the plots, are being inhabited by over 1,000 migrants, which is against the 20-point programme guidelines.
Nagoa panch Anzil Godinho demanded that an inspection as to whom the plots were allotted and who actually live there. He said those found residing illegally on those plots should be evicted.
Godinho complained that while there were plans to augment the water supply to the village, the water being received was stored by the unregistered migrants, due to which the village was facing a water shortage.
Godinho said that it was the same with the power supply and asked Collector Shinde to look into the matter.
Since the panchayat had conducted a tenant-verification drive, it was able to give a detailed presentation to the collector.
