#2017GoaPolls: Goa votes Parsekar out!

PANJIM: In a major upset for the incumbent BJP government in
the state, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar lost his seat to Congress
candidate by a huge margin of 7219.

The incumbent chief minister lost to Congress’ Dayanand
Sopte. Parsekar polled 9371 votes while the winner Sopte voted 16590.

With the fall of the Mandrem constituency for the BJP, the
party’s possibilities of forming the next government in the Goa Assembly are
bleak.

Till the last trends showed Congress winning 9 seats and
leading in 5 constituency, while the BJP has won 7 and leading only in 1
constituency.

However, the former coalition partner of the BJP government,
Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) has won 1 seat and the former PWD Minister
Sudin Dhavalikar is leading in his constituency.

The MGP faced a blow with its party president and former
minister Dipak Dhavalikar losing his seat.

Former chief minister and considered as the heavy weight of
Benaulim, Churchill Alemao has made his come back to the Goa Legislative
Assembly.
