MARGAO: South Goa police registered 2,447 cases under the Code of Criminal Procedure mainly as preventive measures to avoid crime from taking place. 1,303 cases were booked under Section 107 of the code where it was believed that a person was likely to commit a crime and hence detained.
Ponda police detained 240 persons under this section followed by Colva police who detained 219 persons and Vasco police detained 125 persons. Even the Airport police had to detain 25 persons fearing that they would commit an offence.
Good behavior bond was obtained under Section 109 of the Code from 957 persons with Ponda police making 240 persons submit such bond followed by Vasco police who got the bond from 217 persons and Margao Town got the bond from 127 persons. Sanguem and Collem police stations did not get the bond from any person.
80 people have been booked under Section110 of the Code for being habitual offenders with Vasco booking 50 habitual offenders followed by Curchorem police who booked 16 such cases while none were booked by Maina Curtorim, Cuncolim, Quepem, Sanguem, Verna, Mormugao and Collem police stations.
South Goa police removed obstruction or nuisance in 43 cases with Vasco police intervening in 13 cases followed by Ponda police and Curchorem police who intervened in four cases each. Sanguem, Canacona and Collem police did not have any such instances.
In 64 cases the police feared there would be a breach of peace due to a dispute with the highest number of such cases being 15 registered by Ponda police followed by Maina Curtorim police where nine cases were registered and Margao Town police registered eight such cases. Fatorda and Canacona were the only two police stations where such cases were not apprehended.
