VASCO: Twenty-six members of the Goa Barge Owners’ Association (GBOA) have conveyed their willingness to a mining firm to start ore transportation on rotation basis.
According to sources, a meeting with Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar and GBOA was held on Tuesday. Parsekar categorically told GBOA that he would not fulfill the latter’s demands until the association started operating their barges. The issue was later raised at an association meeting, where a few members, citing personal reasons, said that they would start barge operations.
“GBOA members had initially decided not to start operations until their demands were met. However, after a long debate, a few members claimed that they would start operations. Finally, around 26 barge owners communicated their decision to a mining company, and some even sent their barges to the loading point,” said a GBOA member on condition of anonymity.
Meanwhile, GBOA General Secretary William D’Costa has tendered his resignation from the post on personal grounds on Wednesday. The resignation letter was received by GBOA president Atul Jadhav in the evening.
