Santana-Telaulim feast today
PANJIM: The feast of St Ana will be celebrated on July 28 at the church of St Ana at Santana-Talaulim, Goa Velha. On the feast day first mass will be at 6.30 am, second mass at 8.30 am and High Mass at 10.15 am. The evening mass will be at 4 pm.
The main celebrant at the High Mass will be Fr Kyriel D’Souza accompanied by Fr Johnsie the parish priest. Thousands attend this annual feast.
Ponda parish feast today
PONDA: The feast of St Anne, the patroness saint of the Ponda Church, will be celebrated on Sunday, July 28.
The nine-day novena in preparation of the feast was celebrated with various themes for the faithful to perform their duties and practice their faith like St Joaquim and St Anne.
On the feast day, masses will be celebrated at 6.15 am, 8.15 am and the Feast Mass will be at 10 am, informed Fr Cajetan, the Parish Priest.
On the occasion there will be an exhibition football match.
Raiker excels in examination
PANJIM: Nitin V Raiker, Assistant Divisional Fire Officer of Directorate of Fire and Emergency Services has passed the membership examination, MIFireE of the Institution of Fire Engineers (UK), London with two accreditation on special subjects on Civil Emergency and Disaster Management for Fire and Rescue Services and the Fire Investigation, held in March. He is the only person who passed the membership examination with two accreditation from India. Raiker passed the examination from South West India Branch His name has been published in the International Fire Professional Journal.
Raiker joined Goa Fire Services as Assistant Station Fire Officer after passing BSc (Chemistry) in 1991. Later he completed LLB. He is the recipient of Gold Medal in the Divisional Officers course from the National Fire Service College, Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt of India, Nagpur in 2007. He is also the recipient of Chief Ministers Fire Service Medal for Meritorious Services in year 2008. Present he is the Assistant Divisional Fire Officer at District Fire Station, Margao.
October exam forms at Margao college
PANJIM: TYBCom/TYBCA semester V and VI repeater students, who wish to appear at third year university examination to be held in October should submit their examination forms duly filled at the office counter of Shree Damodar College of Commerce and Economics, Margao, by August 17, between 9 am to noon. Vasco-Vailankanni train timing revised
PANJIM: South Western Railway (SWR) has revised the timings of train 17315 Vasco-da-Gama-Vailankanni weekly express for eight trips up to September 16.
The train will now depart from Vasco station at 2 pm instead of 9 am with immediate effect for 8 trips up to September 16 and will arrive at Vailankanni station at 7.30 pm.
Vailankanni-Vasco-da-Gama weekly express. The KRC has requested its passengers to check the arrival and departure timings at individual railway stations along the route as these have changed.

Bone and joint camp at Margao
PANJIM: Playgroup Margao will organize a free consultation camp for bone and joint related problems in association with Dr Mudit Khanna of Wockhardt Hospital. The camp will be held on August 4, from 9.30 am to noon at Wockhardt Medical centre, Near Mabai Hotel, ground floor, Hall no 4, near Municipal Garden, Margao. Dr Khanna has performed successfully more than 100 knee joint replacement surgeries. Besides this, there will be free checkup consultation of blood pressure and blood sugar problems. PANJIM: The Ponda Taluka Legal Services Committee organised Mega Lok Adalat in respect of cases exclusively falling under Section 138 of Negotiable Instrument Act on July 13 at 10 am in the Civil & Criminal Court premises at Ponda, before panel members consisting of the Chairperson of Ponda Taluka Legal Services Committee Durga V Madkaikar, Advocate Nelson Scares and Seeta Kakodkar. A large number of cases were disposed and the advocates and public are looking forward to holding such Mega Lok Adalat for reducing the pendency of cases under Section 138 of Negotiable Instrument Act.
MA in tourism, heritage management
PANJIM: S S Dempo College of Commerce and Economics has launched Goa’s first MA in Tourism and Heritage Management programme. The 2-year full-time degree programme is affiliated to Goa University under the UGC Scheme and has 40 seats to offer. MARGAO: The public awareness meeting of Goans for Dabolim Only scheduled for Sunday, July 28, at Goa Velha stands postponed to August 11, at 9.30 am, as a mark of respect to the tragic and untimely demise of Ragunath Naik, proprietor of Nami Stores, Goa Velha.
GFDO has apologized for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to the unavoidable change in date, stated GFDO Convenor, Fr Eremito Rebelo in a statement.
4 booked for theft
PANJIM: The Panjim police today booked four persons for stealing a water pump motor belonging to Dona Paula Water Sports Association. According to complainant Marriette Gonsalves, four men – Kishore Min, Ramay Berua, Mangolu Viru and Sinay Viru allegedly stole the motor from the storeroom. Police said the theft occurred between June 6 and July 22, 2013. Accordingly, an FIR under Section 380 for theft was registered against the accused.
Fuel economy rally today
MARGAO: Aryaman Sai Goa will hold a fuel economy rally on July 28 to commemorate three years of successful presence in Goa. The rally will start from Aryaman Sai showroom at Camurlim, Salcete at 10 am and would wend its way to Assolna via Cuncolim and back – covering a distance of 60 kms.
Aryaman Sai General Manager, Service department Balkrishna Kamat said that around 120 cars have confirmed participation in the rally.
“This is a fuel mileage economy rally cum entertainment. Cash prizes will be awarded the winners. Besides, the participants can expect spot prizes,” he said. Asked why the rally is being held during the monsoons, Kamat said the rainy season is actually the toughest time to drive.
“We want our customers to know if they can attain good efficiency in the rainy season, the rest of the year will only be easier. The route we chose has all types of roads from highway to village roads. We also need the general public to know that Maruti Suzuki cars are very fuel efficient in almost all the car segments,” Kamat added.
