VALPOI: Three persons have been arrested by Valpoi police for assaulting a Khadki villager and his nephew near Shri Ram Temple in the village, on Wednesday.
According to a police complaint, the inaugural function of the community hall of Shri Ram Temple was held in Khadki village with Union Aayush Minister, Shripad Naik as the chief guest.
The victim said his brother was questioned by the temple committee chairperson and some other members why he sat on the stage for the inaugural function. The committee members, he said, told his brother that only one family has the right to sit on the stage for inaugural functions.
“After a short altercation they assaulted me and my nephew, the victim alleged. I suffered injuries to my nose, legs and right hand,” he said.
The victim said his brother was sitting on the stage along with the chief guest and other guests of honour since he is the legal owner of the land, which was donated to the community hall, inaugurated by Shripad Naik. The community hall was built with the MPLAD funds.
“We have registered a complaint under Sections 341 and 323 (read with 34) of the IPC. And we have arrested three persons and the interrogation is going on,” said Valpoi PI Shivram Vaigankar.
