3 hotel workers die while cleaning sewage plant

OLD GOA: In a tragic incident, three hotel workers lost their lives while another is critical in the GMC in a mishap that occurred when they were cleaning a sewage treatment plant of a hotel Shell Top Inn at Santa Cruz on Wednesday. Two persons have been arrested in this connection.

OLD GOA: In a tragic incident, three hotel workers lost their lives while another is critical in the GMC in a mishap that occurred when they were cleaning a sewage treatment plant of a hotel Shell Top Inn at Santa Cruz on Wednesday. Two persons have been arrested in this connection.
According to Old Goa Police, the hotel owner Lenin Viegas and supervisor Keshav Kunkolkar have been arrested under Sections 304 of IPC.
Old Goa Police have identified the deceased as Mahesh Majik (20) of Valpoi, Chandru Naik (30) of Dandeli and Vishnu Dev (20) of Kerala, while Santosh Oli from Nepal is the lone survivor.
According to fire officials, the incident occurred at around noon when four workers employed by the owner of the hotel were involved in cleaning the sewage treatment plant (STP) when one of the workers fainted inside the STP.
“To rescue the worker, another worker jumped inside but he too started struggling,” Station Fire Officer

Harichandra Naik informed while adding that the other two workers who were outside then entered the STP to rescue their companions, but they too started struggling.
Naik said they received a call informing about the incident at around 12.16 pm and they rushed to the site and were able to rescue two workers, both of whom were immediately shifted to GMC, but one succumbed on the way.
Naik further said sub officer Shivanand M Rawat and Hawaldar Dnyaneshwar Sawant were the first to enter the STP and they immediately pulled out the four workers, two of whom were already dead. They were assisted in the rescue operation by fire fighters Sainath Kesarkar and Pravin Pissurlekar.
DySP and SDPO Mahesh Gaonkar also rushed to the site to take stock of the situation.
