MARGAO, MAY 28
Three of the four accused arrested in the Margao bomb blast case have moved the South Goa Sessions Court for bail.
The bail applications filed by Vinay Talekar, Vinayak Patil and Dilip Mangaonkar came up for hearing before the court on Friday, but arguments on the applications were adjourned by the court to June 8 following adjournment application moved by the lawyer representing the accused.
Special Judicial Magistrate representing the National Investigating Agency in the case S B Faria said the Court had fixed for hearing of arguments on the bail applications on Friday. He, however, said that the lawyer of the accused moved an adjournment application, which was granted by the court.
In the bail applications, the accused prayed to the court that they be released on bail on such terms and conditions as may be prescribed by the court.
They contended that the trial of the case may take a very long time and it would not be fair and just to make them languish in jail for the entire trial.
The accused submitted there is no direct or indirect evidence against them and said there is no recovery from them. “The documents produced along with the charge sheet reveal that the accused are innocent. In any case, there are no reasonable grounds for believing that the accusations against them are prima facie true”, they submitted, while expressing their willingness to abide by any conditions that may be imposed by the court while releasing them on bail.
