3 more police stations for Salcete mooted

The Goa police is actively considering moving the government for setting up of three more police stations in Salcete for better management and effective policing.

A police station each at Fatorda, Navelim and Orlim is being mooted by the district police, which will take the number of police stations in Salcete to seven. The police higher ups are also contemplating creation of two more sub-divisions heading by the rank of Deputy Superintendent of police.
Police officials in the know said the Margao police station – which has jurisdiction over Fatorda and Navelim – is proposed to be bifurcated into three police stations. The police station proposed at Fatorda will have six wards of the Margao Municipal Council, besides the village of Nuvem, sources said.
The existing Margao police station will have jurisdiction over 10 municipal wards in Margao, besides four wards in Fatorda.
As far as the proposed Navelim police station is concerned, it will have areas such as Navelim, Telaulim, Dramapur-Sirlim and Chinchinim. The last named village is presently in the jurisdiction of Cuncolim police station.
Sources in the know said the police has mooted a second police station along the Salcete belt at Orlim. Presently, the Colva police station’s jurisdiction extends to the entire coastal belt – right from Cavelossim, Carmona, Orlim, Varca, Benaulim, Colva, Betalbatim and Majorda to Seraulim.
