PANJIM: Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Friday informed that three air passengers, including a 41-year-old British national of Goan origin, who arrived from the United Kingdom, tested positive for COVID-19.
In a series of tweets, Rane said “this is with reference to flight AI 146 that arrived from the UK today morning at the Goa International airport, wherein 237 travellers tested on arrival and three patients (passengers) have been tested positive for COVID-19”.
He said that a 41-year old British national is amongst those tested positive and that all the patients have been isolated at Primary Health Centre, Cansaulim.
“All other negative travelers will be kept in strict home quarantine and will be retested on day eight or either if symptomatic decline,” Rane said adding that the necessary directions have been issued to the Directorate of Health Services.
UK is among the countries placed in ‘at-risk’ category by the Central government in view of Omicron variant.
The samples of all the three passengers have been sent for genome sequencing to the National Centre for Cell Science (NCCS), Pune to ascertain presence of Omicron variant.
Earlier last week, five persons from Russia and Georgia had tested positive and their samples were sent to NCCS, result of which is still awaited. All were vessel crew members.
