3 serving MLAs miss deadline to declare assets to Lokayukta

Ombudsman announces names of 12 former and current defaulting MLAs; Two former ministers in the list

PANJIM: The Goa Lokayukta declared the names of 12 MLAs who have not declared their assets and liabilities for the financial year ended March 2017.
The list include two former ministers, seven former MLAs and three serving MLAs, including leader of opposition Chandrakant (Babu) Kavlekar.
The present serving MLAs include Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco, Nilesh Cabral and Kavlekar, while two former ministers are Rajendra Arlekar and Mahadev Naik. 
Former MLAs, who are defaulters, include Siddharth Kuncalienkar, Francisco Pacheco, Subhash Faldesai, Rajan Naik, Benjamin Silva, Kiran Kandolkar and Anant Shet. 
On August 18, 2017 the Lokayukta had sent a report to competent authority under Section 21 (2) of the Goa Lokayukta Act and a copy to the concerned public functionaries as required under sub section 2 of section 21 of the Act.
“As provided under Section 21 (2), the concerned public functionaries were required to submit their statement of assets and liabilities within two months from the date of the report,” the Lokayukta has said. 
The last date for submission of the property statements of those who were public functionaries any time during the previous financial year ending March 2017, was June 30, 2017. This included those who were re-elected in March 2017 and were required to file the statements in the prescribed form within six months from the date they entered upon office.
