Three panch members Netty Ferrao, Bernard Rebello and Dominic Noronha decided to boycott the function organized at the panchayat hall by the electricity department in the presence of the Velim MLA Benjamin Silva for free distribution of LED bulbs to protest the power department’s failure to deal with pre-monsoon works.
“The department’s failure has amounted to thick vegetation over the wires, which put the villagers at high risk of being electrocuted if in contact with the creepers. We call upon the Power Minister to have the junior engineers of the department on ground work rather than have them distributing bulbs,” said Dominic Noronha.
Dominic demanded that the Government should discount the bills to fifty percent, which the three panchas felt would help the residents more than the free bulbs. They further condemned the free distribution of bulbs and termed it as an election gimmick of the BJP Government in an attempt to divert the minds of the public.
