VASCO: Three under repair vehicles including a Maruti Omni Van, a Maruti Zen and Honda Eterno scooter were destroyed in the flames when fire engulfed a garage at Pixem Dongri Khariwada in Vasco on Saturday morning.
Vasco fire personnel said that the fire was reported at around 11.10 am due to a spark created from welding. “The welding spark came in contact with petrol in the fuel tank of one of the vehicle which was kept for repair work,” informed the station fire officer Dilip Bicholkar. Luckily there were no casualties.
The fire personnel used two fire tenders to bring the fire under control.
Besides the three vehicles, other important equipments such as machineries, painting equipments and paints were destroyed in the flames. “The fire personnel saved property worth Rs 10 lakh, while Rs 3 lakh property was destroyed in the flames,” Bicholkar said.
There was a house attached to the garage which was saved by the fire personnel. The fire personnel who were involved in the operation were hawaldar J D’Mello, fire fighters S M Korgaonkar, Shahbaz Khan, H Hansikutti, Amrut Mirashi, L M Gawde besides driver operators S R Sawant and N P Manji.
