300 to attend Konkani literary writing contest

PANJIM: Over three hundred students from college and higher secondary schools in Goa, Karnataka and Cochin will participate in literary writing competitions at the Goa Konkani Akademi's 15th Yuva Konkani Sahitya Sammelan.

PANJIM: Over three hundred students from college and higher secondary schools in Goa, Karnataka and Cochin will participate in literary writing competitions at the Goa Konkani Akademi’s 15th Yuva Konkani Sahitya Sammelan. 
Littérateurs will guide and encourage young writers during the two day event. Students with a penchant for writing will receive direction and have their queries answered. The event will have a separate session wherein those interested in writing can consult the established writers, Pundalik Naik, President of the Goa Konkani Akademi told the media at a press conference Tuesday. 
The competitions will be held in four sections ~short story, poetry, screenplay and literary criticism. Poems written by seven students will be published and released at the sammelan. Three poetry books translated from Marathi to Konkani will also be released while essays written by ex-students will be published, Priyadarshini Tadkodkar, head of the department of Konkani said. The event is open to all and is scheduled to be held on December 14 and 15 at Goa University. 
The highlights of the 14 year journey of the sammelan will be shared with the participants. 
Books in Konkani will be on display and available for sale. 
Ibrahim Afgan, Marathi poet and journalist will inaugurate the event while Vasant Bhagavant Sawant, Konkani short story writer will preside over the sessions. Bhaskar Nayak, Director Higher Education and Principal Government College, Quepem will deliver the key note address. 
The late Meghashyam Naik Yuwa Sahitya Puraskar and the release of a book by an upcoming young writer will be highlights of the sammelan. The event is open to anyone who is interested in writing in Konkani and is scheduled to be held on December 14 and 15 at Goa University.
