PANJIM: Exactly a year after the first COVID death was reported in Goa, Goa’s total number of deaths since the beginning of the pandemic has crossed the 3,000 figure.
Meaning, in the last 365 days, the State has recorded a total of 3008 deaths. That comes down to 8.24 deaths per day.
It may be recalled that the month of May recorded the highest number of deaths although the exact number is not know as in the month of June, the Directorate of Health Services (DHS) released data of deaths that had been reported late during the months of August 2020 to May 2021.
The first death was reported on June 22, 2020 where an 85-year-old man from Sattari had succumbed to the infection.
On June 22, 2021, Tuesday, DHS reported a total of 11 deaths, where the oldest deceased person was an 84-year-old male from Caranzalem and the youngest deceased person was a 34-year-old male from Curtorim.
Out of the overall 11 deaths, nine took place between Tuesday and Monday while the two others took place June 20 and June 12.
7 of the deaths took place at Goa Medical College (GMC); 1 at the South Goa District Hospital (SGDH); 1 at a private hospital in North Goa (Manipal Hospital); and 2 at a private hospital in South Goa (Mother Care Hospital).
3 deceased persons had no comorbid conditions, as per DHS.
On Tuesday, the COVID positivity rate dropped below 8%, touching 7.03%. The total number of active cases also dropped below the 3,000 figure, going down to 2920.
303 new Covid cases were reported on June 22, which is an increase over the last two days that had seen less than 220 cases.
4,311 samples were tested in the last 24 hours of Monday evening.
438 persons recovered during that same period and the recovery rate is now at 96.41%.
261 persons were placed under home isolation, while 42 patients were hospitalised. 26 persons were discharged from various hospitals.
Coming to Health Centres, Primary Health Centre (PHC) Ponda with 256 active cases is the only one that has over 200 active cases.
Urban Health Centre (UHC) Margao (173) and UHC Panjim (160) are the only other two health centres with over 150 active cases.
