PORVORIM, DEC 2 About 35 passengers, mostly college students, were seriously injured after an overcrowded Assagao-Mapusa bus fell into a 12-feet low-lying area near Ghateswar Temple at Mapusa on Thursday afternoon.

About 35 passengers, mostly college students, were seriously injured after an overcrowded Assagao-Mapusa bus fell into a 12-feet low-lying area near Ghateswar Temple at Mapusa on Thursday afternoon.
According to Mapusa Police, the bus (GA-01-V-2870) had left Badem for Mapusa via Assagao at about 3.30 pm. On reaching near DMC College, Assagao, the bus driver in the process of negotiating a sharp turn on the slope near Ghateswar Temple driver, lost control over the vehicle and the bus fell into the low-lying area.
Mapusa Police and Fire Brigade officials rushed to the site and removed the passengers from the bus. Locals from Ghateswar Nagar, who had gathered at the site, also assisted the police in the rescue operation.
The injured passengers were shifted to Asilo Hospital in Mapusa for medical treatment. Police Inspector Rajesh Kumar is investigating the case.
