MARGAO: Goans for Dabolim Only has demanded that Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar along with all the legislators visit Mopa and see for themselves the destruction that will be caused to the ecology and the natural habitat if the airport becomes a reality.

“The Chief Minister along with all the MLAs should visit Mopa and spend the entire day in the village. They will come to know the havoc that will be caused to the environment and ecology if the airport takes concrete shape,” remarked GFDO Convenor Fr Eremito Rebello.

Fr Rebello said that a 24-team member team of GFDO activists visited Mopa on Sunday and interacted with the beleaguered residents, who are firmly opposed to the airport.

“During our interactions, the people of Mopa lamented that the government is foisting the airport on the villagers despite their opposition. They were determined to protect their natural habitat and their traditional occupations,” Fr Rebello said.

Replying to a question, he said that around 35 natural springs would be destroyed if the government bulldozes with the airport project at Mopa, adding “if Parrikar has conscience, he should immediately scrap the airport project and do justice to the inhabitants of Mopa”.
