It may be recalled that the accused, Umesh Gopal Reddy, Geeta Umesh Reddy, Santosh Bhasker Reddy and Sunder Pradeep Reddy, were arrested by Porvorim police on December 28 on charges of committing theft of gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 1.24 lakh at the residence of Manohar Korgaonker. They were later remanded to judicial custody.
Police Sub Inspector Dinesh Gadekar said the four accused are the members of same family and are natives of Udupi-Karnataka.
“Earlier, they had given the residential addresses as that of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh to misguide the police,” he said.

“Police have succeeded in recovering cash of Rs 27,000 and the gold ornaments in melted condition from the accused,” added PSI Gadekar.
Gadekar further informed that police from Udupi, who had arrived in Goa on Monday, have stated that the gang is also involved in thefts in Udupi region.
“As soon as the investigation is over and goods are recovered, the four accused will be handed over to Udupi Police,” said PSI Gadekar.
