 7 rounded up with banned plastic bags

CALANGUTE: Calangute Police rounded up seven hawkers and reprimanded 10 others for selling plastic bags below the standard norms at Calangute on Saturday. The Calangute police team, led by PI Nilesh Rane, raided various sites at Calangute beach on Saturday.
Mangueshi woman commits suicide
PONDA: A 38-year-old woman from Mangueshi is reported to have committed suicide by jumping into a well near her house. According to Ponda police, Sunita Gawade was missing since Friday afternoon and a missing complaint was lodged by her brother on Friday evening. Police said the body of Gawade was found floating in the well on Saturday morning. The body was sent for an autopsy before being handed over the family for final rites.
Man found dead in Baga rivulet
CALANGUTE: A man in his mid-forties was found dead in a rivulet at Baga-Arpora. Anjuna police recovered the highly decomposed body and sent it for an autopsy at the GMC hospital at Bambolim. A case of unnatural death has been registered and PSI R G Shinde is investigating the incident.
Karwar native found hanging
PERNEM: A 28-year-old native of Karwar was found hanging at a site under construction at Murmushe in Tuem-Pernem on August 2. Pernem police recovered the body of Mahesh Krishna Shirodkar and sent it for an autopsy at the GMC hospital at Bambolim. PSI Suraj Gawas is investigating the case.
One held for bank fraud
PANJIM: The CBI Saturday arrested Dominic Savio Fernandes, on charges of alleged bank fraud. He was released on bail later in the day. The details were however not available. Fernandes had unsuccessfully contested the 2012 assembly elections on Janata Dal (United) ticket from Panjim. 
NIT orientation programme
PANJIM: The National Institute of Technology is organizing ‘Orientation Programme-2013’ an introductory meeting with freshers and their parents/guardians on August 5 at Seminar Hall, ITI, Farmagudi. M N N Rao, General Manager, Airport Authority of India, Goa will be the chief guest for the function and Prof G R C Reddy, Director, NIT Goa will preside.
