4 held for Corlim dacoity

PANJIM:
Old Goa police finally achieved a breakthrough in a daylight dacoity case, a
month and a half after seven masked persons forced their way into a house
at Corlim.

Four persons, including two women – Vijaya Patoli
(40) from Girui-Satara, Pushpa Gadekar (52) from Parra – and Siddhart Barse
(27) from Ahmednagar and Dattatray Gawde (37) of Corlim were arrested on
Saturday. A search for the other members of the gang is underway.

“We were chasing some leads related to the case
and tracking their movements. They were finally arrested after our
investigation team gathered evidence against them,” a senior officer said.

Keshavnath Naik had alleged that armed burglars had threatened and restrained his family
members before rummaging the house and taking away Rs 2 lakh in cash and
jewelry and other items valued at approximately Rs 7.98 lakh.

“The accused had broken open the rear door to enter the house and had
restrained the family members in the bedroom. Their hands and legs were tied
and mouths gagged,” Old Goa police had said referring to the complaint copy. Before
escaping in the complainant’s car, the dacoits had also damaged the CCTVs
installed inside and outside the house.
