40 fall ill suddenly at Kothambi-Pale

BICHOLIM: At least 40 villagers suffered vomiting and diarrhea at Deulwada, Paroda and Antarashe wards of Kothambi Pale panchayat of Bicholim taluka, on Tuesday.
According to sources, the people from this area suddenly started vomiting and getting loose motions; and when the number of people fell ill reached around 35-40, there was panic in the village.
All were later rushed to different hospitals. It is suspected that the people fell ill either due to drinking of tanker water or due to spread of some epidemics.
Sanquelim MLA Dr Pramod Sawant visited the area late evening on Tuesday and called upon people not to panic; he assured to find out the reason behind the incident.
Sawant was accompanied by a team of doctors and officials of PWD on this occasion. Dr Sawant said that there was nothing suspicious found in the water after the samples of tanker water which were tested on Tuesday evening. He has called upon officials to submit a detailed report after testing the water samples a second time. He also asked them to conduct health check up to find out the possibility of spread of any epidemics.
It is understood that villagers in this area are supplied water from the wells after purifying the same.
