MARGAO: Around 419 students below 16 years of age have either stopped going to school or have not at all gone to school in South Goa district, revealed a survey conducted under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan.
District Collector N D Agrawal, who chaired a meeting of the SSA to review the implementation of Right to Education Act, on Tuesday underlined the need to hold a refresher course for resource persons on how to motivate parents to send their wards back to school.
The meeting, which was attended by Benaulim MLA Caitu Silva, South Goa ZP Chairperson Nelly Rodrigues, Margao Municipal Chairperson Arthur D’Silva and others, has resolved that the officials should call upon the parents and find out why their wards stay away from schools or have never gone to any.
Agrawal told Herald after the meeting that the meeting also deliberated on providing alternate education, including mobile school and conducting late night classes if they face problems to attend day schools. “By June end we will hold the refresher course for the resource persons on how to go about the work of motivating parents. We want to ensure that maximum number of students should go to school again,” he added.
