MAPUSA: Forty five Congress workers from North Goa have submitted applications to the District Congress Committee proposing to contest Zilla Panchayat elections.
Addressing a press conference at North Goa District Congress office, here, President Vijay Bhike alleged that BJP government has made reservations which could benefit the party candidates. Congress is ready to contest election even in the reserved areas and have capable candidates to fight the battle.
Bhike further said, “We have received 45 applications who wish to contest Zilla Panchayat elections from party workers. This shows that people wants Congress. This list of 45 will be scrutinised and it will be further sent to Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC). First preference will be given to those who have worked for the party”.
“BJP have made reservations which could benefit them. However even after doing reservation, Congress party has candidates even in the reserved areas who will contest Zilla Panchayat elections,” Bhike added.
